This is a quick and dirty guide to getting your baking skill up as high as possible, as fast as possible. This is definitely a spoiler; so if you want to figure things out for yourself, stop reading now. It is a very step-by-step, hold your hand guide to mastering baking in the shortest possible time.
First a few general things for all trade skills
Gather Space: Empty all your bag slots into the bank, so you are carrying no bags. Go to the gnome camp in Iceclad Ocean (get a port or take the boat from North Ro). Buy 8 deluxe toolboxes (10 giant slot, wt 4, perfect bank boxes, cost less than 2pp each). Go back to your bank and switch the toolboxes for your normal bags. You now have 80 giant slots in your bank, instead of 64 if you used all backpacks.
Boost Stats: Trade skills go up based on the higher of your int or wis. You may have heard rumors that one affects skill and the other affects success. Let me squash that right now. The ONLY thing that affects success rate is your skill level. Stats make NO difference of any kind. For skill up purposes the engine looks at either your wis or your int, whichever is higher. The other can be 0 for all you care.
Based on your class and race, decide which is easier for you to raise.
- For Magicians, Enchanters, Wizards, Necromancers, Shadow
Knights and Bards it is usually easier to boost int.
- For Clerics, Shamans, Druids, Rangers, Beastlords, and
Paladins it is usually easier to boost wis.
- For Warriors, Monks, and Rogues ... both stats will be
low, pick whichever one is easier for you to raise and boost it
You will see much faster skill ups with higher stats. Get a training suit with the most int/wis you can afford that you can keep in the bank, and put it on when you are working on trade skills.
Ok, on to the baking.
For all races except Iksar, the best place to power bake is the East Commonlands area. For Iksar you have 2 choices: stay in the Cabilis area, or do a ton of faction work in Freeport or Neriak. Due to the lack of fresh fish on vendors near Cabilis, I recommend going to Freeport and getting faction or hiring a newbie/using a mule.
Step 1: Batwing Crunchies
If good
- Go to East Commonlands
- Katha Firespinner (inn 3): buy 10 stacks of Bat Wings
- Parthar (inn 1): buy 10 stacks of frosting
If evil
- Go to East Commonlands
- Katha Firespinner (inn 3): buy 10 stacks of Bat Wings
- Go to Neriak Commons
- Niz L'Crit (refined palate, next to bank): buy 10 stacks of
frosting
If Iksar
- Go to Field of Bone
- Klok Acet (near entrance to Cabilis): buy 10 stacks of Bat Wings

THEN:
- Go to your favorite oven (or use a spit if you want to lug one
around)
- Make Batwing Crunchies till skill 46: 1 Bat Wing, 1 Frosting.
- Sell leftover frosting and crunchies.
- Keep extra wings
Step 2: Fish Filets
If good
- Go to East Commonlands
- Parthar (inn 1): buy 30 stacks of jug of sauces
- Go to East Freeport
- Tanlok Harson (port authority at dock): buy 30 stacks of fish
If evil
- Go to Neriak Commons
- Niz L'Crit (refined palate, next to bank): buy 30 stacks of
jug of sauces
- Mariz Ixtaz (near Toadstool): buy 30 stacks of fish
If Iksar

can find.
- Then grab a pole and hit the fishing button till you have 30
stacks. (I told you to go to Freeport)

leftovers from step 1)
- Go to E Freeport
- Tanlok Harson (port authority at dock): buy 20 stacks of fish
(including leftovers from step 2)

you to go to Freeport)
THEN:
- Go to your favorite oven (or use a spit if you want to lug one
around)
- Make Fish Rolls till skill 135: 1 Bat Wing, 1 Fresh Fish
- Sell all leftover Fish
- Keep extra Batwings
- Use Fish Rolls (these are very popular items, especially among
monks)
Step 4: Bat Wing Pie
If good
- Go to Lavastorm
- Kill lava basilisks till you get 15 eggs
- Go to West Freeport
- Pincia Brownloe (unlabeled building next to monk's guild, W
Freeport): buy a mixing bowl

of spices
- Go to East Commonlands
- Katha Firespinner (inn 3): buy 10 stacks of Bat Wings (including
leftovers from step 3)
- Acquire a pie tin (see smithing

for more info. Personally, I recommend pottery. It is far easier
and cheaper)

If Iksar
- Just go to Freeport. There are no eggs in Kunark. Sorry
THEN:
- Make clumps of dough. They are long since trivial for you: 1
basilisk egg, 1 cup of flour, 1 milk (yields 15 clumps of dough)
- Make Bat Wing Pie till skill 142: 1 Bat Wing, 1 Clump of Dough,
1 Spices, 1 Pie Tin (you get the tin back).
- Sell extra wings and pies.
- Keep extra dough.

Since the patch of May 8, 2002, a new skill up route has become
available for bakers
all races:
- Get a filleting knife (see smithing
recipes for more info)
- Go to Thurgadin (you didn't blow your Thurgadin faction yet,
did you?)
- Mordin Frostcleaver (Mordin's Meats): buy bear meat
(if your Thurgadin faction is bad, then go to Shadowhaven and buy
