The books that can be purchased and scribed to assist with the learning of template recipes can be found in the Plane of Knowledge, Crescent Reach and Abysmal Sea. It is not mandatory to buy and scribe these books in order to make armor templates, but it can help so that you don't have to experiment to learn the recipe and can see the trivials right away before you start. There are two sets of these books: one of tailoring and one for smithing. Visbility to these books depends on your skill level. For example, with a raw skill level of 191, you can see books through level VII (250 trivial range).
