Fine Plate Dyes

These are the dyes used to tint fine plate armor, a specific type of armor that is created via tradeskills. They are NOT the dyes that can be used to tint any other type of armor. Those are the prismatic dyes, which are explained further on our Fine Plate Dyes page.

The extracts needed for fine plate dyes are made by either a shaman or a rogue, using alchemy or make poison, respectively. These extracts can then be combined by anyone, without any particular skill, into dyes. A smith is then required to apply the dye to the armor.

Step One: Make the Extract
Extracts are combined either by a shaman using alchemy, or by a rogue using make poison. The "empty vial" needed is sold by the dye supply merchants. Poison vials and "small empty vial" will not work.

Step Two: Make the Dye
Combine your extracts with the desired number of resins in a medium clay jar. No skill is required for this. The medium clay jar is created with pottery, although at a very low skill. Even if you have no pottery skill at all, you should be able to succeed with only a few tries at most:

The number of resins used determines how dark the dye color will be.

• darker shade - 1 resin, 1 extract
• base color - 2 resins, 1 extract
• lighter shade - 3 resins, 1 extract

Step 3: Dye the Armor The dye is combined with your completed piece of fine steel armor. It is not an ingredient when making the armor itself. Along with the one dye and one piece of armor, you combine one jar of acid and one jar of lacquer, all in a forge. You can fail this process, in which case you get only the undyed armor back. Once dyed, the color cannot be removed.
