Gates of Discord Tailoring Collect

This is one of several tradeskill quests originating in Abysmal Sea. For general information on these quests, please see the main Gates of Discord Quests writeup.

The completion of this quest allows you to progress to a tailoring skill as high as 54 without spending any money. Each step requires that you hand in enough completed items to progress to the next step. When you complete step four, you will be taught how to process muramite etched scales and aged muramite etched scales into useful ingredients for other recipes.

This version of the GoD tailoring conversion quest requires you to provide muramite etched scales and/or aged muramite etched scales. If you would rather not have to provide anything, try the Tailoring Freebie quest.

You start with Garald Samer, a tailoring vendor. As you begin the first step, he will also give you a book containing instructions on making some other Gates of Discord recipes.

You say, 'Hail, Garald Samer'

Garald Samer nods respectfully, 'Greetings. If I can assist you, just let me know. And perhaps, if you are [willing], you could assist me.'

You say, 'I am willing'

Garald Samer says ''All of the tradesfolk an board the Queen of Thorns have been kept very busy attending to the needs of the crew and the Wayfarers that pass through. I am no exception. I enjoy my work, and being busy is not of concern to me in most situations. However, we have discovered some unusual [new material], and I would like to have some time to work with it. I would be grateful if you could help me with my [work] so that I might have more time for other matters.''

You say, 'what work?'

Garald Samer bows his head to you, 'I appreciate your offer. There are many items that I need to keep up with demand. Unfortunately, they need to be made from the Preserved Muramite Etched Scales. I don't need the aged scales, just ones that you can obtain from Tonlyei just by giving her Muramite Etched Scales. I understand that this will require you to obtain these scales in order to help me. Because of this, I will be willing to teach you the secret of preparing the Muramite Etched Scales, both younger and aged. And I will be able to reward you with this information more quickly than Tonlyei in recognition of the extra efforts I require of you. If you are still interested in helping, just hand me an Preserved Muramite Etched Scale and I will show you what I need you to do.'

Tonlyei Lyhin is right next to Garald. Give her a Muramite Etched Scales and she will convert it into two Preserved Muramite Etched Scales. You will need to do this every time you run out of Preserved Muramite Etched Scales and need more for this quest. Garald also mentions Aged Muramite Etched Scales. This is a more valuable version of the Muramite Etched Scales, and conversion of it provides you with Preserved Aged Muramite Etched Scales. Unless you really have a lot of aged scales or don't care to use or sell it, you should stick to using regular scales since it works just as well and is less valuable. If you do want to use the aged scales, however, that works just the same wherever regular scales is mentioned here. In that case, Garald can do that conversion for you.

STEP ONE: Wayfarer Wristguard

Hand Garald a Preserved Muramite Etched Scales.

Garald Samer says ''Wonderful. I am pleased that your desire for knowledge is important to you. Many of the Wayfarers are asking for armor made from the skin of these Muramites. Wristguards are popular among our scouts, and they are not difficult to make. So this will be your first task. Simply take the Muramite Scale and the Wayfarer Wristguard Pattern and combine them in your Sewing Kit. Bring the completed wristguards to me.''

Garald gives you enough materials to make 10 Wayfarer Wristguard. Combine them in a sewing kit or loom and turn in your successes unstacked. Repeat this process until you have handed in 30 Wayfarer Wristguard. When you give Garald the next Preserved Muramite Etched Scales, he will move on to step two.

STEP TWO: Wayfarer Gloves

Garald Samer says ''Ah, good. The Muramite scales make very supple and durable gloves. They seem to have become a popular item among our own Wayfarers, and so I need you to make some for me. Take one piece of Muramite scale and one glove pattern and combine them in your sewing kit to make the gloves. Please bring them to me when you are done. Thank you.''

Garald gives you enough materials to make 10 Wayfarer Gloves. Combine them in a sewing kit or loom and turn in your successes unstacked. Repeat this process until you have handed in 30 Wayfarer Gloves. When you give Garald the next Preserved Muramite Etched Scales, he will move on to step three.

STEP THREE: Wayfarer Cap

Garald Samer smiles slightly 'I am glad you have decided to continue working with us. This time I have need of some caps. These are simple items, but the pattern I have created seems to make a hat that our Wayfarers approve of and requests for them have increased. I guess I should be pleased, though I am uncertain if the term 'jaunty' should be taken as praise. Please take a pattern and one of the Muramite scale and combine them in your sewing kit. The sooner you return to me with the caps the better.'

Garald gives you enough materials to make 10 Wayfarer Caps. Combine them in a sewing kit or loom and turn in your successes unstacked. Repeat this process until you have handed in 30 Wayfarer Caps. When you give Garald the next Preserved Muramite Etched Scales, he will move on to step four.

STEP FOUR: Wayfarer Patch

Garald Samer says 'You have been very helpful. What I need of you now is a little more complicated and will require some detailed work. I am certain that you are up to the task. Many of our items now use our emblem and the demand for them has increased. If you could stitch and dye some of the Muramite scale using the pattern I have given you, I would be grateful. Please return with the Wayfarer patches as soon as you can.'

Garald gives you enough materials to make 10 Wayfarer Patches. Combine them in a sewing kit or loom and turn in your successes unstacked. Repeat this process until you have handed in 30 Wayfarer Patches. Give him one more Preserved Muramite Etched Scales.

Garald Samer says 'You have done enough already. I can not ask you to do more. Talk to Tonlyei, she will show you the secret for preparing Muramite scales of all types. Be certain to tell her of the [chores] that you have done for us. Go with my thanks.'

Follow his instructions.

You say, 'chores'

Tonlyei Lyhin smiles and clasps your hand for a moment. 'You have been of such great assistance to us that I can no longer ask you to spend your days working for us. I thank you. Please, allow me to show you the secret to preparing Muramite etched scales. This method will work on the younger and aged scales.' Tonlyei opens her sewing kit and shows you the contents. The kit is old, the tools you see there have been handed down by generations in her family. She points to a clearly marked bottle of liquid, a common substance that you might not have thought to use when working with this material. She explains that if you use it liberally when working with the Muramite scales it will reduce the brittleness that tends to develop over time, and makes it possible to work with them. You know that you can use this method, and you even suspect that you will be able to improve on it if you work with the scales for a while. Tonlyei bows slightly to you 'May Prexus guard the waters of your life, Verdandi.'

You now have the ability to turn Muramite Etched Scales into Preserved Muramite Etched Scales in a sewing kit or loom, as well as Aged Muramite Etched Scales into Preserved Aged Muramite Etched Scales. For more information on the conversion process see the main Gates of Discord Progressive Quests writeup.
